Legend of Deification 2020

Legend of Deification (Chinese姜子牙) is an unreleased Chinese 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure film directed by Cheng Teng and Li Wei. Featuring the popular Chinese mythological figure Jiang Ziya, the plot is loosely based on the classic novel Investiture of the Gods, attributed to Xu Zhonglin. It is the sequel to 2019’s Ne Zha and the second installment of the Fengshen Cinematic Universe.

The film was slated for release on 25 January 2020 in China, but following the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, all Chinese New Year releases were canceled with no new release date announced.

The film tells the mythological figure of Jiang Ziya, who is a Taoist adept in Chinese folk religion and Taoism, and its story is loosely based on the literary version of the myth that forms two chapters of Investiture of the Gods, a Ming-dynasty (1368–1644) shenmo novel, traditionally attributed to Xu Zhonglin, which incorporates various existing myths into a wider narrative. On the original novel, Jiang Ziya is depicted as a 72-year-old man who help the rulers of Xiqi Kingdom to turn over the Shang King Zhou, but in the film, Jiang Ziya looks like a middle-aged man who insists on following his heart despite having a complex past.

Lost In Russia 2020

Lost in Russia (Chinese囧妈; literally: ‘awkward mother’) is a 2020 Chinese comedy film co-written and directed by Xu Zheng, who also stars in the lead role.

“Lost In Russia” is a comedy-drama displaying what Xu wanted to express concerning his thoughts and understanding about life. The director said it is not just a “popcorn blockbuster” to make viewers laugh, but a film to move the audience to tears and reflect on themselves.

In Chinese, the title is “Jiong Ma” (literally “awkward mother”). The film is about an awkward journey to Russia of a manipulative old mother and her middle-aged son who wanted to rebel and escape. Many elements will resonate with Chinese audiences as it touches on many issues of a certain kind of typical mother-child relationship in China that is either too intimate or estranged, tough and manipulative. Further, it also touches the marriage problems of middle-aged individuals.

“The film itself is a baptism, rebirth and change for me,” Xu Zheng said at the premiere of the film held in Beijing on Friday. “During the filming process, my relationship with my mother has been improving.

The Rescue 2020

The Rescue (紧急救援) is an unreleased Chinese action film directed by Dante Lam. The film follows the personal and professional lives of members from the China Rescue & Salvage of the Chinese Ministry of Transport. The film stars Eddie PengWang YanlinXin ZhileiLan Yingying, Wang Yutian, and Xu Yang. The film was scheduled to the released in China on 25 January 2020, but was withdrawn due to 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak.

The Rescue is the third film in a series of films directed by Dante Lam that pays tribute to Chinese public personnel: 2016’s Operation Mekong (Police), 2018’s Operation Red Sea (Navy), and 2020’s The Rescue (Rescuers). The film has received financial and production backing and assistance from the Chinese Ministry of Transport.

In terms of action, Lam doesn’t disappoint. The opening sequence alone sees an elite emergency rescue unit of the Chinese Coast Guard aim to rescue two persons trapped atop a burning offshore oil rig on the brink of collapse, and it takes bravado for a movie to open with a sequence as spectacular as this. From the point that the fearless Captain Gao Qing (Eddie Peng) unhooks himself from the cable he is dangling off the side of a helicopter to land atop the rig, to the point that the helicopter has to make some evasive mid-air manoeuvres to dodge the wildly swinging cranes as the rig crumbles, and finally to the successful airlift evacuation, you’ll be transfixed by the sheer Bravery of that introduction.

SPYCIES

This simplistic animated feature produced by the Chinese streaming platform iQiyi centres on top-tier spy cat Vladimir (Kirk Thornton), who finds himself demoted to security detail and forced into a job share with a hacker rat named Hector (Dino Andrade). Hector is obsessed with a TV soap starring a glamorous, leggy bee. Radioactive material is stolen from their lab and so they must retrieve it by breaking into a hospital.

Teahouses and fire-breathing dragons hint at this Chinese-French co-production’s setting, but the action lacks a sense of place. There’s a dynamic, human edge to the skilfully drawn characters that is sadly missing from the inanimate dialogue, “humour” and voice work. The film’s well-meaning message about conserving endangered species is clumsily deployed too. “Our mission is to make sure all races survive,” assures an altruistic brown bear, fundamentally confusing race with specie

The Legend Hunters 2020

The film will be theatrically released in China on July 1, 2020, by Wanda Pictures and Saints Entertainment.

“The Legend Hunters” is the next installment in the “Mojin” universe, based on the popular fantasy novel series “Ghost Blows Out the Light.” Backed by Wanda Pictures and Beijing-based Saints Entertainment, the film is set for release next July and stars A-list male leads Zhang Hanyu and Jiang Wu and Hong Kong actress Celina Jade, who crossed to the big time in “Wolf Warrior 2.”

Though a portion of the film is set in the West, Eryong brushed off concerns that his production would be hit by trade tensions. “I don’t think things will get that extreme,” he said, adding with a wink: “Plus Simon’s British, and Celina’s from Hong Kong.

Detective Chinatown 3

The two zany Chinese cops, Qin Feng (Haoran Liu) and Tang Ren (Baoqiang Wang), have already clocked up some misadventures in Bangkok for the first film and New York for the second (which featured a peculiar cameo from Michael Pitt); now the daffy duo rock up in Tokyo, where they have been summoned to tackle a bizarre crime.

A local gang boss has been murdered, apparently by a turf rival called Watanabe (Miura Tomokazu) over dinner, but this man insists he’s innocent and demands our heroes find the evidence that will acquit him. The rest of the film is one bonkers digression after another, concerning some strange criminal conspiracies and the shadowy motivations of the victim’s assistant Anna Kobayashi (Masami Nagasawa).

The film was slated for release on 25 January 2020 in China, but following the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, all Chinese New Year releases were canceled with no new release date announced.
